Sony seems to be phasing out sales of the PSVR 2, having removed the headset from its PlayStation web store, indicating that stock is running low.
Current Availability of PSVR 2
The PSVR 2 has recently disappeared from both Sony’s official PlayStation Store in the US and Japan. However, some regions, such as the EU and UK, still show availability. In Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, the PlayStation Store redirects customers to third-party retailers.
Road to VR has compiled data showing that Sony began pulling the PSVR 2 from its direct online store around mid-October.
Retail Availability and Price Fluctuations
Availability on platforms like Amazon for the PSVR 2 Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle has significantly declined this year. Currently, the only stock at retailers like Best Buy and Walmart is being sold at inflated prices, with listings reaching $750 from third-party sellers. The original MSRP of $550 appears to be unavailable, along with a previously reduced price of $400 introduced in March 2025.
Implications for the Future of PSVR 2
With Black Friday just weeks away, companies usually stock up on popular items for promotional discounts. However, Sony’s actions suggest uncertainty about the PSVR 2’s future as the 2026 holiday season approaches.
Is this the end for the PSVR 2? While Sony has not confirmed this, rumors suggest that production never resumed after an initial pause in March 2024, attributed to disappointing sales since its launch in February 2023.
Even if these rumors are unfounded, it appears that Sony has already written off the PSVR 2. The company closed its London Studio just a year after the headset’s launch and reduced staff at Firesprite, the studio behind the PSVR 2 exclusive Horizon Call of the Mountain. Furthermore, in August 2024, Sony made the PSVR 2 compatible with PC VR games, signaling a lack of commitment to its own device.
