Samsung Reportedly Developing 17-Inch Foldable Tablet

Samsung is allegedly in the process of creating a sizable foldable tablet that could feature a 17-inch display when fully opened, while measuring approximately 8 inches when closed. This information was shared by an X user known as kro_roe, who had previously hinted at such a device without disclosing its maker, but has now confirmed Samsung’s involvement in its development.

The specific design of the tablet remains uncertain due to the reported display dimensions. Simply folding a 17-inch panel does not automatically yield an 8-inch viewing area. Therefore, Samsung may be exploring various design options, such as an outward-folding screen that retains an active section even when closed, or an inward-folding main display accompanied by a separate external screen. The latter would be reminiscent of the Galaxy Z Fold series, though incorporating a large cover display could raise production costs and complicate efforts to maintain a slim profile.

Samsung Display has previously showcased foldable panels within this size range. At CES 2025, the company revealed an 18.1-inch foldable panel capable of transforming into a 13.1-inch laptop-style format when bent. Additionally, in 2022, Samsung demonstrated a 17.3-inch foldable display, confirming the existence of the necessary panel technology, even though it has yet to be officially linked to a commercial tablet.

For a retail version to succeed, several challenges must be addressed, including hinge durability, flexible panel protection, weight management, battery longevity, and software optimization for the larger workspace. As of now, Samsung has not officially announced this project, and details regarding launch dates, pricing, or final hardware specifications remain unconfirmed.
