Sony ELF-MN1 display

Sony has introduced the ELF-MN1, a compact 3D LCD display that allows users to view digital figures, exclusive content, and anime avatars without the need for glasses or headsets. This innovative 6-inch display is mounted on a transparent acrylic stand, enabling seamless connectivity with laptops and smartphones.

Technical Specifications

The ELF-MN1 features eye-tracking technology that optimizes the viewing experience of its 1,080×2,160 3D image. With a pixel density of 403ppi, the highest among Sony’s Spatial Reality Devices, this display measures 77mm wide, 154mm high, and 94.5mm deep, weighing approximately 300g, making it a portable addition to any desk or side table.

Connectivity Requirements

Connecting the ELF-MN1 to a smartphone or laptop is straightforward; however, specific configurations are necessary. Users must ensure their devices have a fast processor and a USB-C port with DP Alt Mode. For laptops or desktops, a minimum of 16GB RAM and USB-C supporting 4K 60P output is required. If these conditions are met, users can enjoy the 3,840 x 2,160-pixel, 60 Hz LCD panel with a 1,350:1 contrast ratio.

Viewing Experience

This display boasts a maximum brightness of 470 nits and a premium pixel density of 403 ppi. It’s important to note that the 3D effect is designed for a single viewer; others may see distorted images. The built-in IR sensor detects the viewer’s eye position in real-time, adjusting the stereoscopic image accordingly.

Real-Time Video Generation

The ELF-MN1 employs real-time video generation technology, providing the best viewing experience from 30cm to 80cm away. The eye tracking feature delivers different perspectives to each eye, creating a sense of depth without glasses or headsets. This 3D effect maintains clarity even as the viewer changes position.

Content and Availability

Sony has confirmed that the ELF-MN1 will support HoloModel digital figures from Gugenka, allowing users to display licensed anime characters from the service’s library as 3D collectibles. Additionally, the display includes a one-watt stereo speaker to enhance the audio experience of the digital figures and avatars.

For those interested, the ELF-MN1 will be available for in-person testing at Sony Stores in Japan starting November 20. It will officially launch for sale in Japan on December 11, priced at 54,000 yen (approximately $340).
