The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has released its 2024 Annual Report, highlighting a year of exceptional economic achievements, global recognition, and strategic growth. Despite international challenges, Rwanda emerged stronger—attracting record investment, expanding exports, and reinforcing its position as a rising hub for business, tourism, and innovation.
💼 Record Investment Commitments: $3.2 Billion Secured
Rwanda attracted USD 3.2 billion in investment commitments in 2024—a 32.4% increase compared to 2023, far exceeding the national target of USD 2.4 billion. The investments spanned manufacturing, renewable energy, agribusiness, and mining and are projected to create over 51,600 new jobs. This performance signals Rwanda’s growing appeal as a competitive investment destination in Africa.
🌍 Booming Tourism Sector: USD 647 Million in Revenue
Rwanda welcomed 1.36 million visitors in 2024, generating USD 647 million in tourism revenue. Notably:
- Gorilla tourism revenue rose by 27%
- The MICE sector (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) brought in USD 84.8 million
- Rwanda hosted 115 international events, attracting over 52,000 delegates
This momentum reflects Rwanda’s continued rise as a global leader in eco-tourism and international conferencing.
📦 Export Growth: USD 4.2 Billion in Trade
Exports grew by 22%, reaching USD 4.2 billion, with increased demand from markets such as the UAE and Luxembourg. Key enablers of this growth included:
- A 33% boost in cargo exports via RwandAir
- RDB supports 240+ local companies to expand into new international markets
- Capacity-building programs that generated USD 164.1 million in new export revenue
🏆 Global Recognition: Business-Ready Leadership
Rwanda was ranked #1 in Africa and Top 10 globally in the World Bank’s inaugural Business Ready (B-READY) report, recognizing its robust business reforms and ease of business. This distinction reflects:
- Ongoing regulatory improvements
- Commitment to innovation and digital transformation
- Focused investment facilitation and policy clarity
🔭 Vision 2025: Even Greater Ambitions
Looking ahead to 2025, RDB has set bold targets:
- Attract over USD 3 billion in investments
- Surpass USD 700 million in tourism revenue
- Expand Special Economic Zones (SEZs)
- Accelerate digitization of service delivery
- Strengthen entrepreneurship, conservation, and innovation ecosystems
Major global events to be hosted in 2025 include:
- The 20th Kwita Izina Gorilla Naming Ceremony
- The UCI Road World Championships—the first time the event will take place on African soil
