Indian lunar rover, historic first steps, south side of the moon

Indian lunar rover, historic moon steps, In a monumental feat of space exploration, an Indian lunar rover has accomplished an unprecedented feat by successfully venturing onto the uncharted terrain of the moon’s south side.

The Chandrayan-3 Rover made a remarkable descent down a ramp from India’s spacecraft, marking a historic achievement for the nation. This momentous event unfolded hours after India celebrated the monumental achievement of landing on the moon’s south pole – an area believed to harbour deep craters containing precious water ice resources.

The primary objective of the Chandrayan-3 Rover is to study the moon’s atmospheric conditions and surface characteristics meticulously. This comprehensive analysis will thoroughly examine the lunar terrain’s mineral composition. Over the next two weeks, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) anticipates a wealth of invaluable insights to be gleaned from this mission.

The ISRO expressed its pride in this groundbreaking achievement, emphasizing that India has left an indelible mark on lunar exploration. Sreedhara Somanath, the chairman of ISRO, attested to the rover’s seamless performance, stating that it is functioning “very well.”

The culmination of this remarkable journey comes six weeks after the initial launch from a spaceport in Andhra Pradesh. A resounding cheers and applause reverberated through mission control at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre as the craft made its triumphant touchdown on the moon.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi witnessed this monumental occasion in a conference call at the space centre. As the spacecraft made contact with the lunar surface, he proudly waved the Indian flag, encapsulating the nation’s pride and achievement.
In a triumphant address to the ISRO team, Prime Minister Modi remarked, “This is the heartbeat of 1.4 billion people. This is the new India, the new beginning, the new thinking of the new efforts.” He noted, “We can all aspire for the moon and beyond.”
