Gitex Africa Digital Economy Technology Showcase

Date:

The inaugural edition of Gitex Africa kicked off in Marrakech on May 31st, bringing together technology and innovation stakeholders to discuss the digital economy.

With 900 companies participating and 250 speakers representing 95 countries, this event is a global platform for dialogue and collaboration.

While the digital economy is rising in Africa, there’s a pressing need to disseminate technology further to accelerate infrastructure development and promote inclusive growth.

The CEO of the Digital Development Agency emphasized the event’s objectives, stating, “One of the main goals of this gathering is to harness digital opportunities and foster a digital economy. We must invest in skill development to expedite innovation and growth in Africa. Additionally, over 250 investors are expected to explore strategies for fully unlocking the sector’s potential.”

Gitex Africa presents an exceptional opportunity for international tech giants to engage with the continent’s burgeoning digital ecosystem. Tech startups and innovative SMEs can leverage this event to tap into the expanding digital economy.

Under the theme “Unleashing Digital Technology for a New Africa,” Huawei is a prominent participant, focusing on three key pillars:

  • digital infrastructure
  • creating value for government services on the internet
  • supporting skills and startup ecosystems

Armand Sylla, Sales and Marketing Director at ACCEL Technologies, emphasized the importance of attending Gitex Africa, saying, “Participating allows us to step out of the office, connect with potential customers and future partners, and discuss our projects.” Based in Senegal, ACCEL Technologies aims to provide solutions within and beyond its borders.

Gitex Africa has quickly become the continent’s premier technology showcase. It is set to become an annual event, following in the footsteps of its renowned counterpart, the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (Gitex) in Dubai.
