One of the most beloved mobile games globally, Clash of Clans, has introduced an exciting new character—Manchester City’s football sensation, Erling Haaland.
Game developer Supercell announced that starting Wednesday, players will have the unique opportunity to either team up with or challenge the animated version of Haaland, now transformed into the game’s iconic Barbarian King.
An avid game fan, Erling Haaland expressed his enthusiasm about his new role. “It’s cool to become a playable character,” he said. The popular fantasy strategy game, which involves building and defending villages while attacking others, has amassed over two billion downloads since its launch over a decade ago. This marks the first time Clash of Clans has modelled a character after a real-life figure.
Stuart McGaw, the general manager of Clash of Clans, shared the excitement: “When we learned Haaland was not only a fan but eager to collaborate, it was a perfect match. Our team worked tirelessly to integrate one of the top athletes in the world into our game, offering our players a unique and thrilling experience.”
Haaland couldn’t contain his excitement about the collaboration, taking to social media to share the news. He posted a game trailer with the caption, ‘From the pitch to the battlefield! I’m the new Barbarian King in Clash of Clans.’ He added, ‘Keeping this a secret was tough, but I’m thrilled to finally share this awesome collaboration with Clash of Clans.’ This level of enthusiasm is mirrored by the Clash of Clans team, who are equally thrilled about this unique collaboration.
Haaland’s partnership with Clash of Clans is not just a personal achievement, but also a significant development in the gaming industry. It follows a growing trend of collaborations between video games and high-profile celebrities, such as Fortnite’s partnerships with Lady Gaga and Billie Eilish, and Call of Duty’s recent collaboration with Nicki Minaj. These collaborations are reshaping the gaming landscape, blurring the lines between virtual and real-world entertainment.
