Deeper Conversations Card Game

Deeper Conversations Card Game

Rwandan author and founder of Imagine We Rwanda, Dominique Alonga Uwase, is positively impacting with her recent initiative to encourage open discussions on mental health experiences among the youth.

Her creation, ‘Deeper Conversations,’ is an innovative card game featuring 55 thoughtfully crafted cards designed to provide a safe and nurturing space for emotional and mental expression.

Uwase shared her perspective, saying, “Rwandans are not known for being overly expressive, and we often find it challenging to open up and trust others. Our culture carries a significant burden of trauma. With ‘Deeper Conversations,’ we wanted to create an engaging activity that helps people connect and understand each other better.”

Developed in collaboration with mental health experts, the game has been confirmed as a safe tool for individuals dealing with mental health challenges.

Uwase expressed her gratitude for the positive reception of the cards within the Rwandan community. She emphasized the importance of seeking professional support for individuals facing severe mental health issues.

She added, “One of our major successes has been selling out of these cards twice in less than a year. We’ve received enthusiastic feedback, particularly from couples and parents eager to connect with their children. This is especially valuable for parents with teenagers, as they seek to build stronger relationships with their kids.”

According to the 2023 Rwanda Mental Health Survey (RMHS), a significant number of Rwandans aged 14 to 25 are grappling with psychological challenges, including depression, anxiety, and trauma. Dominique Alonga Uwase’s ‘Deeper Conversations’ card game provides a much-needed avenue for addressing these issues and fostering understanding and support within the community.
