Adobe Introduces Advanced AI Image Generation Tools to Compete with Startups
To stay competitive against emerging startups that challenge its core business, Adobe (ADBE.O) has launched innovative image generation technology. This cutting-edge technology can draw inspiration from an uploaded image and replicate its style, offering a new dimension to Adobe’s creative toolkit.
The rise of image-generating technologies from companies like Midjourney and Stable Diffusion has posed a significant threat to Adobe’s customer base, primarily consisting of creative professionals who rely on Adobe’s software, including Photoshop. Responding to this challenge, Adobe has proactively developed its version of image-generation technology and seamlessly integrated it into its suite of software applications.
Adobe has assured its customers that images generated using this technology will be legally sound, and this commitment has driven a surge in its usage. Adobe users have already developed an impressive three billion images, with a staggering one billion created in the past month alone.
The newly introduced tools, announced on Tuesday, feature a game-changing capability known as “Generative Match.” Building upon Adobe’s earlier tool, this feature empowers users to generate images from text. However, it enables users to upload as few as 10 to 20 reference images. These reference images are the foundation for developing various embodiments catering to diverse needs such as website design, social media campaigns, and print advertising.
Ely Greenfield, Adobe’s Chief Technology Officer for Digital Media, elaborated on the company’s vision, stating that Adobe aims to simplify image generation for significant brands. They can upload a handful of product or character photos and then harness generative technology to automatically produce hundreds or even thousands of images, streamlining processes for website management, social media promotions, and print advertising campaigns.
Greenfield emphasized the transformative nature of this technology, stating, “Up until a few months ago, it was still a very manual process to get all those photos – not only to take the photos but then to process them. Some photography will move to virtual photography, where you’re generating from whole cloth. But a lot of it also will be, you do some amount of traditional photography or traditional creative work, and then you do a bunch of adaptation using this generative technology.”
Alongside these groundbreaking image generation tools, Adobe has also unveiled tools for creating vector graphics, commonly used for logos and product labels, due to their scalability. Additionally, Adobe is introducing tools for generating templates for brochures and other marketing collateral.
Importantly, Adobe has confirmed that its pricing structure will remain unchanged from the previously disclosed increases in September.
