China and 26 African countries have committed to enhancing partnerships and fostering innovation in the digital sector. China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology hosted the Forum on China-Africa Digital Cooperation, which was held on July 29 in Beijing.
Senegal’s Minister of Telecommunications, Alioune Sall, expressed optimism about the upcoming changes. “This digital cooperation between China and Africa is win-win and will benefit our countries, the African continent, and China through the setting up of innovative infrastructures,” he stated.
During the forum, participants jointly issued an action plan that included implementing ten digital transformation demonstration projects and training at least 1,000 professionals in the digital field over the next three years. This initiative aims to strengthen digital policy, infrastructure, cutting-edge innovation, digital transformation, security, and talent-nurturing partnerships.
China has struck numerous digital cooperation deals with African governments in recent years. According to the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (ICTs), Chinese firms are bolstering network infrastructures on the continent, benefiting over 900 million people. These efforts include deploying undersea cables and launching data centres to support Africa’s digital growth.
This collaboration between China and African nations is not just about advancing the digital landscape. It’s about mutual benefits and shared goals. By fostering innovation and enhancing technological capabilities across the continent, this partnership is set to bring about positive outcomes for both parties.
