Apple’s latest iPhone 15 release has faced overheating user complaints since hitting the market in September. In response, Apple has attributed this issue to bugs in its operating system and recent updates to third-party applications, notably Instagram. Usually, it’s expected that a smartphone might generate heat during initial setup or data backup due to the intense processing requirements.
However, the iPhone 15’s overheating problems have been more severe, causing concern among users. Apple acknowledged that the overheating is partly due to a bug in iOS 17, the latest version of its operating system designed for its recent models. This bug inadvertently leads to increased background activity, making the device feel warmer than usual during the initial days of setup or after restoration. Additionally, Apple identified another contributing factor: recent updates to third-party apps. These updates inadvertently strain the device’s system, causing it to overheat. Apple is actively collaborating with app developers to rectify this issue, with fixes in the pipeline.
Notable apps implicated in this problem include Instagram, Uber, and the video game Asphalt 9. Instagram, in particular, has already addressed the issue in a recent app update. It’s worth noting that the forthcoming iOS 17 bug fix will resolve the overheating problem without compromising the phone’s performance. Apple has assured users that this overheating is unrelated to the new titanium casing featured in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, replacing the stainless steel used in older models. Furthermore, the issue is not connected to the new USB-C port, which was introduced to comply with European regulatory mandates.
Apple emphasised that the overheating problem poses no safety or long-term performance risks to the iPhone 15.
